Patterned Papers

I have new patterned papers in store and love them. They are simple and easy to use, with small repetitive patterns and strong colours. So far I have scrapped three layouts with them and plan to scrap more over the weekend. Below are the new papers and my 3 layouts (one I shared last week, sorry to post it again). These patterned papers make up my monthly patterned paper pack that can be ordered as a subscription for 12 months and comes with matching Bazzill Cardstock. All subscriptions come with a complimentary 13th month (postage only).

These papers are double sided and the reverse side is just as great (so far I have used the reverse side more). As you can see I still have plenty of great colours to take advantage of in these papers. Hopefully next week I will have had some time to play more with them. Have a great week.

Inspired by a card

Last weekend I had two family members with birthdays. In my usual fashion I had presents and no cards, so rather than run to the shop I pulled out my papers and came up with the two cards below.

I was really happy with the colours and simplicity of the brighter card and later decided to use it as inspiration for a layout.

The other exciting thing this week is the new blog some Aussie Girls have put together. Those of you who love simple scrapbooking will love this. Check it out here.

New Patterned Papers

Well it certainly has been a long time since I have blogged. Each week time seems to fly past and somehow before I know it we are almost at the end of March in 2011. Wow!!

Every month I pack up a patterned paper subscription and last month when the papers arrived from the wholesaler I was so excited and inspired to scrap. Below are 2 layouts I have created with the papers from the pack and I plan to do some more, they are so beautiful and easy to use.

The patterned papers used in these layouts come from the Basic Grey Off Beat Range and are available through our website - view here.

On both layouts I have made use of some RW laser cut chipboard alphas and in the first layout used the RW Raspberry Whirl 7 laser cut. I painted all the laser cuts and then added "Glossy Accents" to give them a bit of a lift. The alphas are great for lettering because you can paint or ink them in any colour you like to tie in with your layouts. They are available in individual letters or as a set - view here.

iPhone Bazzil Basics App

Yes...even scrapping can be easier thanks to the iPhone!! Hi, it's Diane here and Lee has asked me to call by and share my latest super cool scrapping discovery.

Just recently I was browsing the latest iPhone apps (still a kid at heart...love the free games lol) and low and behold I discovered Bazzil has an app. So being the iPhone/Bazzil fan that I am I bought it. And it really is great. The Bazzil app contains over 500 cardstock colours across all textures. For each colour it supplies details including name, texture, RGB & CMYK value.
So here's a run down of how it works. You can select from 6 options in the main menu.

Cardstock by Name is a list of Bazzill colours alphabetically. Here you can also create the perfect color palette with monochromatic, complementary, triadic, analogous and split-complementary colour combinations.

Cardstock by Colour is a list of Bazzill by colour families.

Cardstock by Family is a list of Bazzill grouped by texture family.

Colormatch a Photo is where you can match a photo to cardstock. This is where the fun really starts!!

Here you can create a palette by selecting the colours you want to use from your photo. Then you can get the names of the cardstock you need.

And there they are all ready to be ordered from Remember When. Now how cool is that!!! In this case I have used a photo already on my iPhone. I was also thinking, if you where scrapping with friends and didn't know what colours to use use then you could snap a shoot of the photo and drop into the colourmatch!!! Again, pretty cool :)

Saved Palates is where you save the palates you have created till you are ready to place your order!

Matchmaker (sorry no single hot men here) is where you can find the matching colours to thousands of popular pattern papers. Including our favourite, American Crafts Backyard.

And finally here is the page I created using my palette for the above photo. The only change I have made to the palette is the background, I have used Kraft.

So if you have and iPhone or are thinking of getting one this is a great app to look into. iPhone apps can be found in the iTunes store. iTunes is a free program you can download here. From here you will find the App store. The Bazzill app is $12.99.

Patterned Papers

I have recently uploaded some new patterned paper packs to the website. Below is last months patterned papers sent out to our monthly subscribers. These come matched with coordinating Bazzill cardstock. These papers are from the American Crafts Bookshelf range and are great. They suit both girls and boys, but I was most excited that they suit boys. In my hunt for patterned papers each month I am constantly on the lookout for papers suitable for those of us with boys. The patterned paper selection seems always to be dominated with girly colours and prints :) Something I enjoyed greatly when my little girl was born.

Emma receives our monthly subscription packs and sent me through three layouts recently that she scrapped using her packs. The first and third come from April's pack and the middle layout uses American Crafts Blue Skies range released in our February subscription pack. Emma has also used a heart lasercut from our RW lasercut range on this middle layout.

Thanks so much Emma for sharing these with me. I especially love the photos of your little boy in the third layout and the way you have tied your colours together with each layout, using patterned papers, fonts and Bazzill. Just for me Emma also used one of the ribbons from our ribbon club subscription in the first layout. It just happened to be a great colour match this month.

Whisked Away

Thanks for stopping by again. Firstly my apologies for not posting last week, I will explain in a minute and it is the reason for the title today. First however, 2 weeks ago I posted a sketch challenge. Tracey sent through her interpretation, thanks Tracey and below is her layout. What a great memory to have. We have just booked to go to Seaworld so hopefully in a few weeks I will also be able to scrap the polar bears :) As promised Tracey I will send a little goodie pack your way, so keep your eye on the post.

Now for 'Whisked Away'

Last week my husband surprised me with a weekend away in the Hunter Valley. Not only is this one of my absolutely favourite places to go and chill out it is where we were engaged 10 years ago on Anzac Day. This is why the surprise. My fabulous husband organised for us to stay in the same guesthouse, in the same room as 10 years ago. We spent 3 nights there, relaxed, ate great food and wine tasted. Generally just enjoying the peace and quiet of the Hunter Valley. As a result I was packing and not blogging last Thursday night (I thought you wouldn't mind).

Below is a layout I scrapped recently about the Hunter Valley (before I knew of the surprise). The layout came from Cathy Zielske's design your life course and it is one of the few layouts I have scrapped that is not about my children :)

A lasercut, a layout and a sketch challenge

This week is a bit of this and a bit of that. My printer is not working properly and I still haven't managed to find time to have photos printed. So I have a painted lasercut to share, a layout that was inspired by a Cathy Zielske layout in her book Clean and Simple Scrapbooking and for the long weekend - a sketch challenge. None of these things are related, but all things I wanted to share with you this week.

Firstly a laser cut I painted recently. I used Making Memories paints and of course Glossy Accents to finish it off. I painted it without a layout in mind, but this week I took a photo of my daughter that I think will go nicely with it, so I will definately need to find time to print some photos this week and share the lasercut next week on a layout.

The layout below was one I scrapped at the getaway. I was looking for some inspiration and for me the best place to start is always Cathy Zielske. I found an 8.5 x 11" layout in her first book Clean & Simple Scrapbooking which inspired me. I adjusted the dimensions to fit a 12 x 12 layout, moved the title and used my own colours. I was pleased with how it turned out and I am always grateful to Cathy for her inspiration.

Lastly this week, another long weekend is here so I thought everyone may have a little free time to scrap :) Below is a sketch challenge for you. It was always my intention with the blog to hopefully offer a little inspiration for you, but also to start to create a bit of community between the regular Remember When shoppers and blog readers. I know that lots of people are often hesitant to share their layouts or comment, but please as a scrapper who scraps mostly on my own, I love seeing what other people are scrapping and am sure that others do to. Since I have blog readers and newsletter readers all over Australia feel free to join in discussions and challenges. If you feel more comfortable doing this anonymously you are more than welcome to do this also.

So... this sketch challenge came from .. my head, sorry, but sometimes I just have images pop into my head - usually when I lie down to go to sleep at night :) I have not tried it out yet, so I am keen to see how other people can make it work as well. Email your layout to me by next Thursday and I will share them in the next blog. I will also randomly choose 1 layout to send a small goodie package to, just to say thank you for your efforts and sharing. Mini Album

Before I start my blog this week, I have had a bit of feedback about the painted lasercuts I posted last week. Some people have shared they think these look great, but they wouldn't have the time or patience. So I thought I would pop a poll onto the blog this week to see if people would like to see some painted lasercuts available for purchase (saving you the work, if you wanted this look, but didn't feel like painting). While we were away on the getaway a few weeks ago, one of the workshops was creating a mini album. I thought I would share this with you today. The idea behind it was to scrap a little more about ourselves. If you are anything like most of the scrappers I know, we all scrap about other people and not ourselves. In scrapbooking magazines and blogs there is always lots of ideas to scrap about ourselves, but I still rarely do. So, as the weekend was a no children weekend I thought it would be a good time to make a mini album focusing on 'Me'

I titled it 'a week as me' and as I like simple, kept the album very basic. You will probably notice that the photo on the cover is not me and I have yet to replace Jaime with me. I ran out of time prior to the getaway to find a photo of me to put on the front (something else that is very lacking in my scrap booking), so I used Jaime's for an example - lol

The album is 6" x 6" and has a chipboard cover which I covered in Bazzill cardstock.

Inside the front cover I wrote a small page on "I am ..." and filled this in with thoughts about what I do now and what I like to do etc. The page to the right of this was the first day of the week. I took some random photos throughout the day, printed them small and then cut them down with a 1 1/4" circle punch. How many photos you use does not matter. I used a minimum of three on each page and then filled in the other spaces with plain bazzill and patterned papers.

Behind each day of the week I made a pocket, so that I could slip a journalling card in. On this card I jotted quick notes about what I had done each day. Very simple things, but things that show what my week had been like. I did one for each day of the week and then stuck Sunday onto the back chipboard cover to finish off the mini album.

Hopefully it will be something fun to look back on in years to come, or for the children to flip through when they are a bit older :) It was quick and easy and since every page followed the same format very little thinking was required.

As we put these together on the getaway it was great to see how everyone adapted my basic layout to suit their own scrapping style.

Getaway, layout and lasercuts

This week has been an odd week and therefore lots and bits and pieces going on. Hence my blog this week. Beware before you keep reading there are a few pictures this week. To start with I thought I would share a couple more photos from the getaway (now that the girls have consented to me sharing them - lol). So.. a bit of scrapping, some relaxing and of course back to scrapping :)

As I shared last week, after returning from the getaway I have a new love for glossy accents (dimensional magic) and I have included a layout this week using a lasercut that I inked and then coated with glossy accents. I love the way it adds shine and a finishing touch to the lasercut.

Due to my excitement with 'glossy accents' (dimensional magic) I felt inspired this week to grab a few lasercuts and have a play. I went to the local craft store and found the finest paint brush they had. At the time I thought I was going a little overboard, but when I started painting I was glad I had made the decision to stick with the smallest I could find. So paintbrush in hand and a few colours of Making Memories paint I sat down to see what I could come up with. Below are some of the lasercuts I finished. I actually found this a very calming time and looked forward to a few spare moments each day to paint. Definately something I will be doing more of :) Of course I coated them to finish and I am really pleased with how they came up.

This week I need to head to the photo store to print some photos and hopefully next week some of them will be on layouts to share with you. Underneath each lasercut I have written the name of the set it comes from. Oh and I decided to get the glitter out too and see how it would come up, so the butterfly has some glitter added as well (before I glossed it)

Getaway

The getaway was last weekend and it was great. It started Friday afternoon and ran through until Sunday afternoon. It was located at a fabulous conference centre on the Central Coast of NSW - Noonaweena. While they have 2 houses on the property to cater for different groups you would never know there were people in the other house. We do not share the house we are in with any one over the weekend which is great. There are plenty of places to escape to if you need time to yourself or some peace and quiet (the spa included). All rooms have their own ensuite so plenty of privacy as well :).

I loved meeting new people and seeing all the different ideas everyone had to share over the weekend. This time I found the weekend particularly inspiring as people scrapped layout pages and off the page projects. With permission, next week I will share some with you. Everyone joined in the workshops and aside from scrapping enjoyed the spa and generally relaxing in the gorgeous surroundings and peaceful atmosphere that Noonaweena has to offer.

There was certainly a lot of laughing over the weekend I look forward to sharing future getaways with the new friends I made this weekend and also others who would like to join us. Below are just 4 photos from the weekend. I have left out any of people just yet until I make sure everyone in them is happy for me to share them with all of you.

During one of the workshops on the weekend we talked about using magazines to find inspiration and layouts and how one layout can be used over and over again. Below are 3 pages I scrapped from the original layout. The first one directly uses the layout with all the spaces being the same as the original. In the second and third I combined some of the spaces to make larger areas for photos, paper or journalling. The first two pages started out as 8.5 x 11" pages and I mounted them on black cardstock to make it a 12 x 12" layout for my children's albums. The third I changed the dimensions of the original layout to make it a 12 x 12" page.

On the second two layouts I have used lasercuts for the titles. Over the weekend being with others and scrapping you inevitably learn new things. Sometimes, being the mother of 2 young children I can live with my head in the sand and this was one of those times. The girls shared 'Dimensional Magic' with me and I just love it. It has been around for some time now, but somehow I missed it. So... the lasercuts have been inked and then had Dimensional Magic put over the top to make them glossy and add an extra dimension. I am sure that I will be back next week with more layouts using it :) (Now that I have my own!!) and no - for the girls away with me I didn't make my husband stop on the way home (trailer and all) to get it, I went out on Monday.

Mini Albums

Hi everyone...Lee has asked me to write something for the blog this week as she is busy preparing for the Getaway (I'm so jealous!). I have to say, it is a little daunting but I will give it a shot. Just so you know, I do not at all proclaim to be an expert at scrapbooking. I'm just like everyone else...I love scrapbooking, love telling our family stories and I love photos. I struggle to fit it in to my busy life but I do the best I can!

I have started to get into "Mini Albums" in the last 6-9 months and I love what they offer me. I haven't done a whole heap of mini albums, but I've enjoyed the ones I have done and I thought I'd share them with you. These would never replace actual albums for me, just sometimes it is a better way of sharing an event or thing.

The first one I will share with you is still a bit of a work in progress. Its my "Story of Pandora" Album. I started this one because I (like so many others) have been hit with the craze of the Pandora Charm Bracelet (pic below).

All my charms have been given to me by family and friends and I wanted to keep a record of who gave me what and also the reason behind the gift. If my bracelet becomes a family heirloom one day in the distant future, I'd like there to be a story behind it! So I went super simple for this as it is something that will be added to over the years as I collect more charms. I picked up one of those cute little suitcase like tins with the handle and I have basically created cards to fit inside the tin. I will probably decorate the tin a little at some stage. I haven't decided yet as to whether I will attach the cards with a ring or if I will just leave them loose. On one side of the card is an individual picture of the charm and then the name of it underneath. On the reverse side of the card, is my info section which I created in word. It just has the relevant information... Bead, Date and Why. I then handwrite the info into it and add a cute flower and I'm done. Its as simple as that. I even have a few of the info cards printed off and left blank in the tin so it is easy for me to add a new bead. I also have a pile of the flowers in the tin and a stash of the dotted swiss paper I have used for the photo side of the card.

The next album is one I did about my eldest son's first year of soccer. I take heaps of photos at most of the games and it posed the problem of what do I do with all the soccer photos. The team manager wrote these amazing and very funny match reports each week, so I ended up copying and pasting them into a word document and putting each weeks report with a photo. I didn't care too much about whether the photo was from the game that the manager had written about, I just picked my favourite photos for the season and used them. This was super simple and didn't take long to put together at all once I had the Word format done. I didn't even have to do much journalling as the match report covered it all. I used paterned papers from a co-ordinating range so that I didn't have to think about colour matching etc either. I didn't do much in the way of embellishing - I let the fonts I chose and the patterned paper do the embellishing. I kept the design the same for all the pages, only altering it slightly on the intro page and the end page. All in all a very simple format that is a great keepsake for my son and everyone loves looking at it.

The last album I want to share with you is one that came about after a family holiday. I took several hundred photos on this holiday and I wanted to do something with my favourites - but that totalled around 80 photos. So I decided to combine Scrapbooking with a traditional slip in photo album. I just printed my photos and slipped them in and every now and then I would leave a page blank so that I could do something with embellishments etc to break it up a little. I decorated each page with a strip of scalloped cardstock, a patterned paper strip and an embellishment. On some pages I journalled, but only where necessary. Again, I used a co-ordinating range of patterned paper and this also had co-ordinating epoxy stickers (I think thats what they are called!!). This was quite simple, not overly time consuming and a great way to scrapbook a large amount of photos. I will definitely do this again when the need arises.

Determination

It has been an exciting week here for us that started the weekend before last when we went to visit some friends in Port Macquarie. They have 2 boys aged 6 and 4 years and we have our 2 aged 4 1/2 and 18months. The only thing they asked us to make sure we packed was bikes. As we have no bike rack on the car we chose to pack the scooter instead. The first morning we were there we headed to the local cafe (which is also connected to the local cycling shop) and our friends decided to purchase a new bike for their 4 year old. As you can imagine this was very exciting and he wanted to try it out asap. So that afternoon we headed down to the local basketball courts where there was plenty of room for riding bikes, scooters and skateboards. He had no problem transferring from his smaller bike to the new one and no need for training wheels (which he had previously managed without also).

After watching this and taking it all in and hooting around on his scooter Jake silently processed the 4 year old and no training wheels.

When we arrived home he headed straight for his bike and asked for the training wheels to be removed. He spent the next few days determined to ride without them. This is not an easy feat at our house. We have no driveway, no garage, and the street is on a hill. So there is no adequate flat space to practise. Nevertheless determination set in and out on our back deck Jake persisted. At first with help, and then when I had to cook dinner he chose not to wait, instead he used the railing and the wall, mastered getting started and wobbled his way down the deck on his own.

Watching him master something he was so determined to achieve and seeing the smile and pride he had in himself made me grin from ear to ear. Below are some of the photos I took and we then headed down to the park (where we have pretty much lived ever since) to keep practising in a much bigger space :)

It is amazing what children achieve when they watch other children. I could have explained the no training wheels over and over, but watching another child makes all the difference.

As I was thinking about my post for this week. I thought back to a layout I did when Jake was 8 months old, also about determination. The motivation for him was different, but the effort and persistence was the same. Nothing has changed and I hope it never does. I love this quality in Jake and hope I scrap a lot more pages titled the same over the years. I will turn the pictures above into a page about determination.

simple lasercuts

Well, another week has flown by and if you dropped in last night to read the blog, my apologies for being a day late. I was simply too tired last night to do anything but sleep :). I hope you have all had a great week and maybe you could take this moment to grab a coffee and then admire the two layouts I have to share with you. I can speak so highly of them, because I did not scrap them :) I was so excited when Emma emailed me 2 layouts she created during the week using the February Patterned paper subscription and a couple of lasercuts. They are very simple layouts but beautiful, I think she has done a wonderful job of telling her stories to go with the photos, embellishing slightly and keeping the pictures as the focal point.

The second of these two layouts Emma created for Kathy Zeilske's design your life class.

I frequently leave my lasercuts raw and so when Emma sent her layouts through to me and she had also left them raw it made me smile. I know that Annie who blogged for Remember When under the previous owner used to paint hers beautifully and one day I plan to try this. If you have any lasercuts that you have decorated or painted and love how they have turned out on your layouts please email me a photo - lee@rememberwhen.com.au I pack so many orders of paper and lasercuts I often wonder how people use them on their layouts. I would also love to share some with the people who read the blog each week.

On a different note, the getaway is sneaking up very quickly and I am so excited. Excited to have some time to scrap with no distractions and excited to meet some new people. Last year was such a great time for relaxing, sharing ideas and generally just having a great time. I plan to have lots to share with you after the weekend.

Lastly for this week I am excited to say that it's birthday month. The 1st March was the 1st anniversary for me as the new owner of Remember When. It has been a great 12 months and I have loved taking over the business and starting shape it to my own. My fingers are crossed that by the end of the month (or very shortly after) the new website will be up and running and there will be no more ordering problems. I have been busy uploading all the products on to the new site and can't wait to share this with you shortly. Also included in the new site will be the full range of Bazzill colours that we have in 8.5 x 11 inch and A4 - too exciting! :)

Blue Skies

This week I sent out the February patterned paper pack to our subscription customers and I was able to send them some of the latest releases from American Crafts Blue Skies range. It is a gorgeous range that while on the girly side, it has enough stripes and colours other than pink to be used for the boys.

Having said that the layout I did tonight is of my daughter when she was first born. I used the Blue Skies - I'm like a bird paper for the background and then cut out one of the flowery shapes from the Oh Happy Day page as an embellishment. The letters for the title are RW classic font laser cut letters which are available individually or as an alphabet set.

I didn't want to say anything else on this page so I didn't include a journalling block. I arranged the photos in a collage so that I could incorporate different sized photos while still maintaining an ordered look to the page. This is great when you have lots of photos that you don't want to crop to the same size or sometimes you can't crop to the same size. By making them into a collage block you add order to the page, it looks attractive and purposeful. You can use as many photos as you like to do this and it also works well over a two page spread.

Apologies for the colours in the photo of my layout. I will retake the photo tomorrow in the light so it reflects the gorgeous colours in the papers better.

An interview and a Sketch

As I mentioned in last weeks post (and the week before I think) I had interviewed my son. He is 4 1/2 and I have often seen pages of interviews with children and thought what a great way to record some of their thoughts and favourite things. So now that he is old enough to answer the questions with some consistency we had our first interview. I hope I will remember to do this on a semi regular basis - maybe once a year. Below is the layout I created from the interview. I have used Bazzill Cardstock - Road Runner and White, American Crafts Metropolitan Chicago (great colours for boys), American Crafts white foam dacquiri thickers (which have just arrived back into stock) and RW Raspberry Whirl Alpha Stickers - Raven.

Also this week, I scrapped the Sketch Challenge from last weeks blog. Below is a reminder of the sketch and then my interpretation of it. I didn't want to cut down my photos too much so I made the page larger than I first imagined I would and moved the title into the bottom box rather than sitting below the patterned paper. Again I used the American Crafts Metropolitan Patterned Paper range, Bazzill Lily White and Whirlpool and Amercian crafts black dacquiri thickers. Emma joined me for the sketch challenge this week and her interpretation is 2nd. Thanks Emma for sending me your layout, I will email you your 20% store wide discount voucher.

Sketch Challenge

I had every intention of sharing a layout I had scrapped this week of my 4 year old and an interview I had with him recently. However, as the week goes by something usually goes wrong, and this week was no exception, I refilled my printer ink and now it's not working properly :( So that will layout will have to wait until next week.

Instead I have a sketch challenge for you and an older layout. I would love you to join me in using this sketch to create a layout this week. You can email your page to me at lee@rememberwhen.com.au. Below is a layout I did at the getaway last year. It is very simple and thank you to Nicole for the layout. It is a lift from one of her pages scrapped on the weekend that was used by a number of people - one of the great things about scrapping with others :)

Getaway

Well a busy week and no time for scrapping, so I thought I would share some layouts with you that I scrapped during the getaway last year.

July last year was the first Remember When Getaway since I took over the shop. I searched for accomodation that I thought would fit my image of what the getaway should be. Being an online store I don't know many of you, but many people I run in to who scrap have children and/ or very busy lives, so my goal was to find a place that would allow the weekend to be a real break. Peaceful and relaxing with nothing to do but scrap. So I found Noonaweena. My first reaction was the same as the girls who came on the weekend - 'Wow', 'It's Perfect', 'How long can we stay'.

So with accomodation sorted, I made sure all food would be taken care of (remember I said the only thing to do was scrap) and plenty of Bazzill was on hand...

and I was ready.

The weekend was a really enjoyable time, with a mixture of people who were brand new to scrapping through to those who had been scrapping for quite some time. The thing I love about all the people I meet through scrapbooking is how generous and friendly they are. With a group of people like this you are certainly never short for inspiration or ideas or someone to chat to. We scrapped for hours, late into the night (even though you knew you could keep scrapping the next day). There was plenty of space for everyone. So we set up on arrival and packed away reluctantly on the Sunday afternoon. There was time to squeeze in a couple of workshops and a few challenges, some freebies to give away and if you needed there was space to do your own thing as well (a bush walk, tennis, spa)

So if you would like some time to relax, meet new people and indulge yourself in someone else doing the cooking and unlimited scrapping make sure you book in to the March getaway. Using the January Pack

This week I pulled out the January Patterned Paper pack and scrapped a couple of layouts. The colours are great in these American crafts papers and the just the edge cardstock, and Bazzill tropical flowers co ordinated perfectly. I will definately be using the papers to do some more layouts very soon.

In the first layout I have used Bazzill cardstock with the Spring & Summer - Tea Cups paper. Along the bottom I added a strip of the Bazzill just the edge cardstock (Ruby Red) and a lasercut title. Most of the time I end up leaving my lasercuts raw - the way they come when you buy them, but I will soon be venturing out to see what else I can do with them. Often I use photos in my layouts that have been taken outside and at the beach so the raw feel and colour fits perfectly. I only used a title on this layout as I didn't have anything I really wanted to say, I just adore the photo.

The second layout I scrapped this week was again of my little girl (the colours in the pack didn't really suit Jake's photos - lol) and I chose a photo that is taken from a different perspective - behind. Most of the time we take photos from in front, with faces and smiles, but every now and again it's nice to step behind to take the photo. I challenge you this week to step behind your subjects and see what you come up with. If you feel like it please email me what you come up with as I would love to share some of them next week.

When I took this particular photo I was thinking about the curls. I have straight hair and so does everyone in my family. So when my son had curls when he was young it was all new to me. Unfortunately as his hair grew and we cut it the curls stopped growing back. Jaime has more curls than Jake did and hopefully if I don't have to cut them too much they will stay around for a bit longer.

Again I have used Bazzill cardstock and I found as I scrapped this week that Java really helped to ground the bright colours in the American Crafts papers. The American Crafts patterned paper is Spring & Summer - Saucer. I also cut out some of the butterflies from the Spring & Summer - English Garden patterned paper to use as embellishments. Again I used the Bazzill just the edge, but this time I cut the strip up and used the butterflies individually and a small left over piece for the tag in the right hand corner from the strip I used on the previous layout. This is the first I have really used the edge strips and they are great. Very versatile. Some of the packets are just pattern strips, but others such as the Ruby red have strips of butterflies and flowers that you can easily cut up and use individually as I did this time. The title is American Craft Thickers.

Because I have had so much fun using the January Patterned Papers I have decided to leave the January Pack Special on for another weekend, so grab one quickly before they run out. Patterned Paper

Last week I promised you layouts using the January Patterned Paper Pack (a sneak peak). Now I have a confession - I had way too much fun this week and left no time for scrapping. Instead I jetted down to Melbourne to spend some time watching the tennis. I watched Roddick bow out of the Australian open in a great match. Henin stay in the Australian open in a great match. The Williams sisters both move on to the next round and my favourite Pat (Rafter) play in the Legends doubles (plus other matches). I ate great food in Hardware lane and visited Victoria Road where Vietnemese food is at its best with soooo many restaurants to choose from, all with great food. And of course drank coffee and shopped along Bridge Rd. Not a bad way to celebrate the Australia Day long weekend :)

But... back to scrapping. I did not scrap the January pack. I did get it out though and will share it with you soon and next week will share a layout or two I scrap with it. I particularly like the January pack as it matches so nicely with some of our other stock in store such as the Bazzill just the edge and the Bazzill tropical flowers. Because of this I have decided to pack some of these up into a kit this week as a special weekend release. Keep reading to see what's included.

Before I show you January's pack I do have some patterned paper layouts for you, kindly scrapped for me by Emma. Emma subscribes to our monthly patterned paper pack which comes with matching Bazzill cardstock. It is a great way to make sure you have some matching papers to go with the patterns. All too often I pull out some patterned paper I like and then can't find the matching colour Bazzill paper and need to wait until the local store is open again - very frustrating. Ok, I tell a little fib, this is what scrapping was like before I took over Remember When, now I have sooo many colours to chose from it's like paper Heaven :)

The first layout below is a layout Emma put together with the December Patterned Paper subscription. The next 2 she created after receiving her October Pack.

Ok, this months pack has some gorgeous girly paper by American crafts. They are bright (while not being over the top) and combine well together for using on the same layout. Below are the 5 patterned papers included in the pack

Month By Month

I can be one of the worst decision makers and thus my late post again. So again I apologise for the poor layout photo further down the post and I will fix this tomorrow in the day light.

I am excited about doing a month by month album this year to record 2010, but I will need to speed up my selection of photos or I will never make it to Dec - lol

This month I tried to take a few photos from different angles, my favourites at the moment always seem to be those taken from above and usually portraits of the children.

Below are two photos I took this month. The first is my favourite of the month and the second is my husbands. They are both of our daughter Jaime. Photography is not something I know much about, but I plan to work on that this year and so as I go week to week I will try to remember to share some of my photos with you as well. It was nice to sit down and look through the photos I took this month. Often I will take them and never really sit down to look at all of them. I will choose some to scrap, but trying to capture the whole month on one layout made me go through the photos more carefully.

As you know I have been tossing around different ideas for how I would approach my month by month. I started out thinking I would use a sketch similar to the layout I used for my 'snapshot of 2009' that I posted last week and repeat it each month.

Then after I made my 'snapshot page I decide this would be too difficult. I do not have a square punch that works well enough to make the page quick and simple, so I was hand cutting all the squares (too much each month to make sure I make it to Dec). Then I decided the divided sleeve from American Crafts (available from the website) would be a good option. Each one has 6 pockets, giving me 12 spaces I could fill with photos, journalling or embellishments. I had settled on this idea until I shared it with my husband, who decided he would like it if I could add an enlargement for something special that had happened in a month.

So ... I replaced one side with a regular 12 x 12 sleeve that will allow me to journal and use enlargements if I want.

On January's layout I have used a mixture of photo sizes and because I printed them at home was able to play around with these a little. (You can do this instore too). I have included a 6 x 4" calendar in the bottom corner and will include this each month. I copied the months activities straight from our wall calendar. Each month I can vary what I have in the pockets to suit and use as many or as few photos as I like. Similarly on the other side I can have all photos, all journalling or a combination of the two.

Sketch challenge and a snapshot

Wow! How the week flies past. Thursday comes around so quickly at the moment and I look back on haven't achieved half of what I wanted to (maybe my list was too long to start with - lol). Thanks for stopping by again and thanks again to those people who left a comment last week to let me know they had read the blog. Di has used dotted swiss cardstock and RW alpha letters on her layout.

All Bazzill cardstock for me and apologies for the colours (not as bright as they really are), the light was not great when I took the photo of the layout. No embellishments - it doesn't get much simpler :)

This week I also put together a layout for 2009. I am not sure I am finished yet, there may be an embellishment or 2 to come (any thoughts more than welcome), but for now I need to grab some sleep and look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow.

I used Bazzill White, kraft, java and Berrylicious. American Crafts thickers and Patterned Paper.

Before I go. I just wanted to say thanks to Sharon for sharing her blog and ideas for a Month by Month record of 2010 with me. I will share my plan and started layout for January next week.

Happy New Year and already we are a week into it! Thank you to those who stopped by last week and left a comment to say hi. Remember to sign on as a follower as well if you like while you're here.

This week has been a busy one as my family finished celebrating Christmas on the 2nd, I started the Cathy Zeilske Design your life course being run by Big Picture Scrapbooking (www.bigpicturescrapbooking.com) and I started to sift through some of the 2009 photos to scrap as an end to the year (that certainly doesn't mean I have scrapped all I want to from last year). Of course this always takes longer than you think - way too many photos, so I am hoping to finish it this week to show you next week.

I did manage to scrap a Christmas page though before the New Year started. I was stoked about this because I think this is my first Christmas page. I rarely manage to scrap events, focusing more on moments (something I plan to work a little on this year), I always take way too many photos, have scrapped pages for other peoples albums from Christmas, but never managed one for any of our albums. So this year I started with Jaime's page and I am determined to do 1 for Jake before February.

It is a very simple page using Kraft and Bazzill white cardstock with RW laser cut raven alphabet letters for the title. I decided to keep the colours (or no colours) very neutral because Christmas photos are generally so bright they add enough colour to the page when you use multiple photos.

The other thing I have been pondering on this week is how I might record 2010. There are lots of ideas floating around as how different people are going to approach this. Last year I tried to join Nicole in her 52 week challenge on the Remember When blog, but I failed miserably. Because of this I think a weekly challenge is not in my league this year and a daily one is certainly out of the question. I think I might give a monthly one a shot though. So my plan to this point is '2010 - month by month'. I have some thoughts floating around in my head for this, so next week I will share these with you in more detail - trust me it will be simple. If you have any suggestions or ideas you would like to share with me about how you are recording 2010 please let me know. Or, alternatively if you would like to join me in my month by month record please let me know because I would love to have some company (it always helps to keep me motivated and on track). When I have the new gallery up and running I will set up a folder for you to share your layouts - however you choose to record 2010.

One last thing - January can be either a very busy or a very quiet month. If it is a quieter month for you then please join me in a sketch challenge this week. Below is the sketch. Up Close and Personal

Welcome to the new Remember When Blog. Over the last few months the design team have been doing a fabulous job, but also finding life increasingly busy, so I have decided to make some changes. It is my vision that Remember When as a business will always have a personal touch to it. This is a little harder on line than with a shop front so to I have decided to maintain the blog myself. This will allow you to stay up to date with what is going on at Remember When. I will post new products, layouts and general information that will help you stay in touch and also allow you to get to know a bit about me. There will be opportunities for guest blogging and keep your eye out for challenges and competitions. I hope through the blog you will find a place of community that will allow you to freely and comfortably share thoughts and ideas, connecting with the wider scrapbooking community. It is very busy here at Remember When with a lot of things in the pipeline for 2010. For sometime now many of you will be aware we have been experiencing very frustrating difficulties with the website that have proven very difficult to fix. As a result of this I have made the decision to rebuild the website and I look forward to releasing the new website (free of problems) in the new year. Thank you all so much for your patience and I am so excited about the new shop and how it is shaping up.

Also the gallery has had spam problems going back to before I took over the business and we are currently looking in to alternatives for this. People have shared their thoughts that the current gallery is not so user friendly and taking this on board it is my intention to have a new gallery up and running when the new shop is released.

Now for some scrapping... It is again the end of another year and so many things left unscrapped (still in my pile), so I thought I would share with you one of my favourite photos I have from 2009. In 2008 we became a family of 4 with the birth of our beautiful daughter Jaime and the photo for this page was one of those random moments where you look down and think how fun your feet look and at the suggestion of my husband took a photo. As far as journalling I had nothing particular to say so I simply titled it "and then there were four"

This week I am going to try and set aside some time to sort through my 2009 photos and pick some favourites. I will share them with you later on.
